Anthropic has extended Claude's memory so it now works across both chat and Cowork in the cloud, meaning context you build in one place carries over to the other. If you're on a Free, Pro, or Max plan, memory is already on by default — so your first move should be to open Settings > Memory and review the Topics list, where every remembered item is visible and can be edited or deleted. Sensitive topics like health or beliefs are excluded by default; Claude only remembers those if you turn on the 'Include sensitive topics in memory' setting. If you're part of a Team or Enterprise organization, memory is off by default, so nothing changes until it's enabled for your org.
Deep Dive: what actually changed
According to Anthropic's release notes (dated August 25, 2026), Claude's memory now works across both chat and Cowork in the cloud. Previously, what Claude remembered didn't follow you into Cowork — now the two share the same memory. For anyone who moves between asking Claude questions in chat and doing longer work in Cowork, that's the real news: you shouldn't have to re-explain your context when you switch surfaces.
Two other changes ship alongside it:
Editable Topics. Everything Claude remembers is now listed under Topics in Settings > Memory. You can edit or delete any individual item. This turns memory from something that happens in the background into something you can actually inspect and correct.
A sensitive topics setting. Topics such as health or beliefs stay out of memory by default. They're only remembered if you explicitly turn on Include sensitive topics in memory. In other words, the default posture is exclusion, and including that information is an opt-in choice you make.
Who has this on, and who doesn't?
The defaults differ by plan, and this matters for whether anything changes for you today:
- Free, Pro, and Max plans: memory is on by default.
- Team and Enterprise organizations: memory is off by default.
So if you use Claude through a work organization on Team or Enterprise, this announcement doesn't change your experience unless memory gets turned on for your org. If you're on an individual plan, it's already active.
How to use this in your day-to-day work
The source gives you a concrete place to go: Settings > Memory. Here's a sensible first pass:
- Open Settings > Memory and read the Topics list. This is the full inventory of what Claude remembers about you. If memory has been on by default on your plan, there may already be items in there you haven't looked at.
- Edit or delete anything that's wrong or that you don't want carried forward. Because memory now spans chat and Cowork, an outdated or inaccurate remembered item will follow you into both — cleaning up the list once fixes it everywhere.
- Decide deliberately on the sensitive topics setting. If you want Claude to remember things like health-related context, you need to turn on Include sensitive topics in memory. If you'd rather it never did, you don't have to do anything — exclusion is the default.
The practical shift to internalize: context you establish in chat is no longer siloed from Cowork. If you've been copy-pasting background into Cowork sessions that Claude already knew from chat, that workaround should no longer be necessary. Anthropic also points to its guide, Use Claude's chat search and memory to build on previous context, for working with memory alongside chat search.

Aug 10, 2026Anthropic has published guidance on importing and exporting your memory from Claude, meaning the information Claude remembers about you is no longer locked inside the product — you can take a copy out or bring memory in. If you use Claude's memory feature, check Anthropic's support article for the exact steps; the release note itself doesn't include them.

Aug 10, 2026If your organization is on a Claude Team plan with monthly billing, you can now switch that same plan to annual billing without waiting or contacting sales through a new process. This only applies to Team plan organizations currently billed monthly. If you're on a different plan, or already on annual billing, nothing changes for you. Anthropic published a support guide walking through the switch.

Aug 10, 2026On August 12, 2025, Anthropic announced that Claude Sonnet 4 now supports a 1 million token context window, currently in beta. The context window is the amount of text Claude can consider at once, and 1 million tokens is roughly 750,000 words, or several long books. This is a large jump from the standard 200,000 token window. For now, access is limited to API organizations in usage tier 4 or those with custom rate limits, meaning it is aimed at teams building on Claude's API rather than everyday users of the Claude.ai app. If your company works with Claude through the API, this means you can now feed in much larger document sets, contracts, transcripts, or knowledge bases in a single request instead of splitting them up.
